Amid the controversy over Mitt Romney's Mormon religion at the Values Voters summit in Washington Friday night, Minnesota Republican Michele Bachmann stuck to her by-now familiar script. "We don't have to settle for a moderate for the sake of winning," Bachamnn told the gathering of religious conservatives. "We can stay true to our values." So far Bachmann, a born-again Christian, has stayed out of the simmering theological debate that was re-ignited by Robert Jeffress, a prominent evangelical leader who declared that "Mormonism is not Christianity." Jeffress, a leader in the Southern Baptist Convention, made the point after introducing Texas Gov. Rick Perry, whom Jeffress is supporting for president. He also called Mormonism a "cult." Perry's campaign released a statement saying he does not agree with Jeffress about Romney's religion, and Romney is scheduled to address the summit today.
