Bachmann sets up state PAC

The Republican congresswoman had promised this spring to give the maximum possible contributions to Republican state legislative candidates in her district

U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann had the will but didn't have a way to give Republican state legislative candidates campaign contributions.

Bachmann told a Minnesota political convention in March that she would "max out" to all the GOP state House and Senate candidates in Minnesota's Sixth congressional district. That pledge meant that she would either have to spend her own money or set up a state political action committee to legally contribute, since federal campaign funds are not permitted in state coffers.

According to her campaign manager Chase Kroll, she selected the later option and has set up a state organization to dole out funds.

Kroll said Wednesday that Bachmann filed paperwork this week to create a state PAC called MICHELEPAC so that she could contribute on a state level. He said the PAC should be operational in a few days.
