Reports out of New York this morning indicate that Michele Bachmann paid a visit Tuesday to the Manhattan headquarters of Agudath Israel of America, an ultra-orthodox Jewish group that represents many Hasidic Jews. The headline in Vos iz Neias? (Yiddish for 'What's News?): Bachmann kibitzes with Agudath Israel. Her trip came as the New York Post suggested that some Jewish donors mistakenly believe that Bachmann is Jewish. In fact, she's an evangelical Christian, and her connection to Agudath Israel appears to be the group's ardent opposition to same-sex marriage. According to Vos iz Neias, Bachmann spent about an hour discussing issues ranging from same-sex marriage to security for the Jewish state. She also reminded the group she worked on a kibbutz in Israel 40 years ago. Orthodox Jewish leaders told the paper that they also have met with GOP rival Mitt Romney, and plan similar meetings with other candidates as well. The confab reportedly had nothing to do with Bachmann's remarks earlier this week suggesting that God was trying to send a message to Washington through the recent East Coast earthquakes and Hurricane Irene.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
