A 61-year-old man was reported missing Sunday night after he left his belongings inside a camper at the county fairgrounds and never returned, authorities said Tuesday.

Bruce Peterson, who was visiting the area with his wife from out of state, left the Dakota County Fairgrounds in Farmington at 10 p.m. to have a cigar, authorities said. Peterson left his wallet and other belongings behind.

Authorities said it is "suspicious," but do not think there was any foul play.

On Tuesday afternoon, authorities met with a citizen's group to search the fairgrounds.

"ATVs and drones will be in the area," the sheriff's office tweeted.
