Authorities identified on Tuesday the two drivers who died in a head-on crash near Turtle Lake in Polk County, Wis.

The passenger vehicles crashed head-on shortly before 5:30 a.m. Monday on Hwy. 8 just west of Turtle Lake, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

Geraldine Swanson, 67, of rural Turtle Lake, and Harvey Richter, 69, from nearby rural Cumberland, died at the scene, the Sheriff's Office said.

According to the Sheriff's Office, Swanson was driving her SUV east, when she crossed the centerline almost a quarter-mile east of 15th Street and collided with Richter's westbound car.

It was raining at the time, but authorities have yet to say whether that factored into the collision.
