Authorities on Sunday identified the man who they say carried out a murder-suicide last week at a home in south Minneapolis.

Homero Lopez Salinas, 35, fatally shot Martina Lopez Garcia, also 35, on Thursday at her home in the 2700 block of Cedar Avenue S., according to the Hennepin County medical examiner's office. Both were shot in the head.

The medical examiner listed for Homero Lopez Salinas a north Minneapolis address, which he and the woman bought together in March 2014. Police on Sunday declined to explain the relationship between the two.

Officers were called about 3 p.m. to the apartment building after two people who knew the pair found the bodies, police said.

Hours after the discovery, several of Martina Lopez Garcia's relatives and friends gathered outside, watching as a homicide detective walked in and out of the mid-level apartment where the bodies were found.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
