A man driving an all-terrain vehicle on an east-central Minnesota road crashed and died, authorities said Monday.

The wreck occurred about 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Finlayson Township on Cane Creek Road near a trail system in the General C.C. Andrews State Forest, according to the Pine County Sheriff's Office.

Patrick Auger, 38, of nearby Sturgeon Lake, died at the scene, the Sheriff's Office said. Auger suffered head injuries and was not wearing a helmet when he crashed on the road that runs parallel to Interstate 35, said Sheriff Paul Widenstrom.

After Auger's ATV left the road and rolled over, a nurse on another machine came upon the scene and began resuscitation efforts before emergency personnel arrived, according to the Sheriff's Office.
