At the Arb: Seed Stories and a Re-Think About Orchids...

It's all about presentation.

The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum does a fine job of publicizing all the wonderful events and displays happening out there. But let me just put in my two or three cents worth.

If you haven't seen Seed Stories, do go, it will appeal to many interests beyond the obvious horticultural relevance; history, marketing, patriotism, art, and all things local to mention a few.

Just make sure you actually see it. I thought I was the only one who missed the bulk of the exhibit after several visits to the Arb recently. It's easy to think it is just the displays in the halls and the gathering area by the library. Apparently others missed the main part kind of hidden behind the grand entrance area, back by where the coat racks and restrooms are located. This large hall houses much of the artwork and information concerning this fascinating business.

If you read my post a few weeks ago, you picked up on my ambivalence about orchids. I am now more conflicted since viewing the spectacular orchid show, "Great Hall of Orchids: Timeless Beauty" in the entry gallery area. But in a good way.

This display proves that it's all in the presentation. Exotic flowers in stunning vessels top-dressed in natural materials and my favorite, The Orchidarium, a modern Wardian case planted in a woodland vignette.

The star of of the show is a rare Peruvian orchid, Phragpimedium kovachii, a perfect and purple example of natural wonder.

I can feel my resistance to these fabulous flowers weakening at the knees.

Seed Stories runs until April 3.

Great Hall of Orchids: Timeless Beauty in on display until March 13
