At least one person is dead after a motorcycle crossed the centerline and was hit by an oncoming car in Winona on Sunday night, according to the State Patrol.

A Harley-Davidson was traveling north on Hwy. 61 about 5:45 p.m. when a deer came onto the road. The motorcycle hit the deer, crossed over the center median and was struck by a car traveling south in the opposite lane.

A man and a woman, both from O'Fallon, Ill., and in their 50s, were on the motorcycle. It isn't clear from the State Patrol's website whether one or both of them died.

The car that hit them, a Ford Edge, was driven by 48-year-old Matthew John Broghammer of Winona. He wasn't injured.

The State Patrol will release the names of the motorcycle's driver and passenger Monday.
