At least one person died Friday night in a head-on crash south of the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

Patrick Hayes, 34, of Savage, was traveling the wrong way around 8:25 p.m. on Interstate 494 when his vehicle struck a Jeep traveling westbound on Hwy. 5, according to the State Patrol. The Jeep contained five passengers, whose names have not yet released. It is unknown whether there was alcohol in Hayes' system, the Patrol said.

The crash closed some lanes of Interstate 494 for a couple of hours, the Patrol said on Friday night. The Bloomington Police Department, Hennepin County Sheriff's Office and Airport Police assisted with the incident.

According to scanner reports, four people were taken to area hospitals. A number of rescue vehicles remained at the scene late Friday.
