My colleague Lora Pabst writes: Judy and Matt Truitt paid $7,000 to a Golden Valley assisted-living facility for a room for Judy's mother, but she died before she could move into Country Villa . Country Villa said it didn't have to pay them back, but after Whistleblower reported the Truitts' story Sunday, the Plymouth couple got a partial refund. The Truitts paid a deposit and one month's fees up front. After Judy's mother died, they received another bill because a 30-day notice was required to end the lease. The lease ends when the resident dies, but the Truitts were charged for nine additional days. This week, the Truitts received a refund for seven days, totaling $735. They still plan to ask for the additional two days that they say were improperly charged.
