Volunteers sought to build playground

A "community build" of a new, all-inclusive playground in Woodbury is seeking volunteers.

The Madison Claire Foundation, Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity and the city of Woodbury are organizing the Sept. 18-19 event.

Madison's Place is a 16,000-square-foot accessible playground at Bielenberg Sports Center.

About 200 volunteers are needed over four shifts. People age 14 and up will put together sunshade-covered play decks, swings, sensory play equipment and ramps.

Sign up at www.tchabitat.org. Donations are accepted online at www.madisonclairefoundation.org. For questions, go to dana@madisonclairefoundation.org.

Next month, it's the puppet show, "The Comical Misadventures of Mr. Punch." That performance, Sept. 26, at 2 p.m., is made possible through Legacy amendment funds.

Classes are Tuesdays, Sept. 22 through Oct. 13, from 6-8 p.m.

Students will be encouraged to use their photographic equipment to its fullest, rather than rely on the "automatic" settings. The class fee is $99.

A six-week clay class for kids ages 7 to 12 will be offered on Mondays, Oct. 12 through Nov. 16, from 4:30-6 p.m.

Cottage Grove

City's first-ever film fest is Sept. 12

The Films in 5 Festival, Cottage Grove's first-ever film fest, arrives next month.

Films will be shown on Saturday, Sept. 12, from noon to 3 p.m. at Park High School. Admission is $5.

The Cottage Grove Arts Commission presents this event.

The idea is to give local filmmakers a chance to showcase their creations, with short-format films — less than five minutes long, as the name implies — critiqued and prizes awarded.
