Richard Walton Park will be the epicenter of activity this week as Oakdale stages its annual civic celebration, Summerfest. The 29th annual fete begins with a royalty coronation at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Guardian Angels Church, 8260 4th St..
Highlights include the Ted Bearth Grande Parade, named after the festival's longtime coordinator. It steps off at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Oakdale residents Martin and Rose Eberhard will be the grand marshals of the parade, which begins at 15th Street and Geneva Avenue and heads east on 15th Street to Hadley Avenue.
Other events include concerts by Rockie Lynne from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday and Transit Authority from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, a carnival, "Echos of Elvis" at 1:30 p.m. Saturday and a classic car show from noon to 4 p.m. next Sunday. For more information, go to startribune.com/a1374.

Master fiddlers team up for camp, concertAcclaimed fiddler Brian Wicklund and musicians from across the country will spend the week at camp teaching aspiring musicians bluegrass, Canadian, jazz, Appalachian, Irish, and blues for fiddle, mandolin, guitar, cello and bass.
Instructors including fiddlers Lissa Scheckenburger, Matt Combs, Trevor Kieger and Megan Gregory, mandolinist Matt Flinner, guitarist Jeff Troxel and bassist Kevin Rowe then will play a Fiddle Masters Concert at 8 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 115 N. 4th St.

Sip some suds, make history come to lifeThe Washington County Historical Society will serve up lagers and pale ales along with some history during the fifth annual Hay Lake School Beer Tasting from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Hay Lake Museum, County Road 3 and Old Marine Trail.
Hayes Scriven, executive director of the Northfield Historical Society, will talk about how that organization came to brew its own brand of beer, the James-Younger 1876 Rye Ale.
