Tickets are now on sale for "Forbidden Broadway," a cabaret revue sharply spoofing show tunes, characters and plots of contemporary and current Broadway musicals presented by the Mas­quers Theatre Company on Jan. 29-31 and Feb. 5-8 at Vannelli's by the Lake, 55 Lake St. S., Forest Lake.

"Forbidden Broadway" has mocked popular shows like "The Phantom of the Opera," "Les Misérables," "The Lion King" and "Rent." It also targets famous Broadway actors, writers, composers, directors, choreographers and producers.

Winter Ice Cream Social returning

The Winter Ice Cream Social, a popular annual event put on by the Washington County Historical Society, will take place from noon to 4 p.m. Jan. 17 at Mulberry Point in downtown Stillwater.

Among the free items available: Leo's Malt Shop and Grill ice cream, root beer from Lift Bridge Brewing Co., hot chocolate provided by Pub 112 and coffee from the Daily Grind.

Chili will be available for a nominal fee.

Marine on St. Croix

Snowshoe program offered at park

"Let's Snowshoe!" a program teaching the basics of snowshoeing, will be offered from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Jan. 10 and 17 at William O'Brien State Park, 16821 O'Brien Trail N. Marine on St. Croix.

Participants will meet at the Visitor Center and go through a short introduction to snowshoes and the fundamentals. Participants can then check out the snowshoes, explore the park and look for tracks and wildlife.

There are a limited number of snowshoes, so participants are encouraged to call the park office at 651-433-0500 to sign up.

White Bear Lake

'39 Steps' opens at Lakeshore Players

Tickets are on sale for "The 39 Steps," a suspense thriller adventure with a twist of comedy playing Jan. 15-Feb. 1 at Lakeshore Players Theatre, 4820 Stewart Av., White Bear Lake.

This two-time Tony Award-winning show mixes a Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel and a dash of Monty Python.

Sculpture workshop invites amateurs

A scratch block workshop, in which participants have an opportunity be a part of the metal sculpture casting process, will be offered from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Feb. 1, 7 and 8 at Franconia Sculpture Park, 29836 St. Croix Trail, Shafer, Minn.

In midwinter, Minnesota artists converge, fire up an outdoor furnace to 2,700 degrees and pour molten iron to form cast metal sculptures. At the workshop, participants create their own mold that will be poured during the Valentine's Day iron pour on Feb 14. Mold prices are: $30 (small), $40 (medium) and $75 (large). 3-on-3 hockey tournament set

An outdoor youth 3-on-3 Pond Hockey tournament will be held from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Jan. 19 at Hamlet Park, 8833 Hamlet Road S., Cottage Grove.

The cost is $15 per team, and there are three divisions — Squirt/U10, Peewee/U12 and Bantam/U14 — in the round-robin tournament. Each division has four openings. Teams consist of three to five boys or girls. The 15-minute games are played with no contact or goalies.

HeathEast offering sampler workouts

HealthEast Ways to Wellness is offering a free sampler week of exercise classes from Jan. 5 to Jan. 9 at Woodwinds Oak Center, 1825 Woodwinds Drive, Suite 300, Woodbury.

During this week, all of the classes will be available to participants at no cost. This gives participants the opportunity to try one of the popular "8 for $80" weekly group fitness classes, which officially begin the week of Jan. 12.

The free fitness sampler week gives participants the chance to sample one or more classes that are of interest to them and see which ones might be a good fit.
