Arts Briefs: 'Canvas & Vines' fundraiser at Burnsville Arts Center

The "Canvas & Vines" fundraiser sponsored by the Burnsville Convention and Visitors Bureau is scheduled for 6-9 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Burnsville Performing Arts Center.

The event will feature tastings of wines and craft beer along with a variety of foods from local restaurants, all while viewing fine art and listening to music by Greenwood Tree. There will also be a silent auction.

Civil War Weekend is Sept. 8-9One hundred re-enactors will be on hand when the Dakota County Historical Society presents "Civil War Weekend 2012: The War in the West," scheduled for Sept. 8-9 at the LeDuc Historic Estate in Hastings.

The weekend will focus on the world-changing events that occurred in 1862 and lessons that can be gleaned from those events. Discussions will range from the Emancipation Proclamation and the battle of Antietam to battles in the West and the Dakota Conflict.

In addition to the re-enactors, musicians representative of the era will perform, and there will be hands-on military and civilian activities for children, families and adults.
