Brian Wicklund will bring his band to his hometown of Marine on St. Croix for an intimate "house" concert in artist Tom Maakestad's studio Saturday. The master fiddler and his buddies -- guitarist Joe Cruz, bass player Kevin Rowe and percussionist Joel Arpin, who are better known as the Barley Jacks -- will play from a repertoire that includes Celtic, R&B, blues, bluegrass and classical numbers. The ensemble also will perform selections included on its first recording, "Either Side of Night," which was released in June.
The evening also will afford concertgoers a chance to see a body of new paintings by Maakestad, which will be on view in his studio above the General Store. Following the 7:30 p.m. show, the paintings will be shipped to Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, where they will be featured in an exhibit celebrating the 150th anniversary of the school's founding. Tickets for Saturday's concert are $16 in advance, $18 at the door. For more information call 651-433-2445.
