Less than a year after he reopened it in Mendota Heights, Robert Dubuc has closed Bread, Coffee and Cake bakery and restaurant.
The artisan bakery opened last October in Mendota Plaza and was known as BC2. A note on the store's website announced the closing, saying, "The cost of doing business has become unmanageable." Dubuc could not be reached for further comment.
He relocated the bakery more than a year after his St. Paul shop was smashed by a van-sized boulder that had tumbled down the Wabasha bluffs. No one was hurt in the accident, but Dubuc said he had no desire to rebuild there.
He spent several months looking for new locations in St. Paul and Hudson, Wis., before settling on Mendota Heights.
A former chef trained at the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco, Dubuc had developed his own recipes for artisan sourdough and whole-grain breads.
Arvig is latest provider to work with AccessEagan
Arvig, Minnesota's largest independent telephone services provider, has signed a master agreement with AccessEagan, the city's wholesale fiber network.
Under the agreement, Arvig can work directly with area businesses to provide them with various data transfer services.
Earlier this year the city and Frontier Communications reached an agreement under which Frontier became the first telecommunications provider on AccessEagan, the city's 16-plus miles of fiber optic lines. The system is open to any telecommunications carrier wishing to provide services to Eagan businesses. The city provides no retail services.
