Bills' interest in Frazier is sincere

Vikings' defensive coordinator is ready for the next step, but might have to wait for for coaching carousel to start again.

A quick glance around the NFL while wondering what Tim Brewster was thinking when he decided, "Hey, we'll play a game on New Year's Eve, stay at the bowl site and turn 100 young football players loose to ring in the New Year!" ...

. Bills GM Buddy Nix will be in town today to interview Vikings' defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier for Buffalo's vacant head coaching job. Frazier deserves a chance to be a head coach. While he's more reserved than Mike Tomlin, I think Frazier has done an even better job with the Vikings' defense in the three years he's had it than the one year Tomlin had it.

While the Bills have interest in Bill Cowher, this isn't just an interview to satisfy the Rooney Rule. The Bills already interviewed Perry Fewell, their interim coach, for four hours on Monday.

Frazier, however, might have to wait as Buffalo waits for things to shake out with the big-name candidates such as Cowher. Only one coach has been fired since the season ended, which seems kind of strange.

One gets the feeling everybody is waiting to see what happens in Dallas. While it appears ole Wade has saved his neck with a regular season-ending hot streak, what happens if the Eagles come back and beat the Cowboys at JerryWorld Saturday night? The Cowboys haven't won a playoff game since 1996. And Wade has never won one as a head coach. So a loss to the Eagles would hardly be a surprise.

If Phillips gets fired next week, then the dominoes could start to fall and we'll know where a guy like Cowher will end up. Then the Vikings could be looking for another defensive coordinator after the season.
