With fall colors just starting to pop across the landscape, the timing doesn't seem quite right to initiate the holiday cookie conversation.

But we're going to anyway.

That's right, it's time for the Taste Holiday Cookie Contest, and we need you.

We can't have a contest without recipes. Lots and lots of recipes. That's where you come in. Do you think you have a winner? Send it in, and we'll confirm your suspicions. We'll publish the winner — and four finalists — on Nov. 30.

It's easy. All we need is your recipe, along with the story behind it: Where did it come from, and what role does it play in your holiday baking traditions?

We love great stories almost as much as we love original recipes. But we also appreciate recipes that you've discovered in newspapers, magazines, cookbooks and websites, recipes that you've incorporated into your own holiday baking rituals. Share yours with us.

Send your entry to taste@startribune.com or Taste Holiday Cookie Contest, Star Tribune, 650 3rd Av. S., Suite 1300, Mpls., MN 55488. The deadline is noon on Oct. 20. Please include your name, address, e-mail address and daytime phone number.
