Much Needed Rain Returns to Southeastern Australia

April 24, 2009 at 10:30AM

Drought-stricken southeastern Australia will benefit from some much neededrainfall today and through the weekend. A series of storms moving east willhelp fuel the rain, which has been lacking across Victoria, southern andwestern New South Wales and South Australia.Since the beginning of the year, southeastern Australia has received lessthan half their normal rainfall. This is in contrast to Queensland in thenortheast where more than double the normal rainfall has fallen year to date.

Rainfall across southeastern South Africa, southern and western New SouthWales and Victoria can exceed 1 inch in many locations through the weekend.

While this is welcomed rain, it will not be enough to erase the ongoing droughtacross the region.
