Design Within Reach is returning to the Twin Cities.

The modern furniture store, which closed a location in Uptown in 2013, will open an 18,000-square-foot store on the lower level of the Galleria in Edina later this year. It will be across from the recently relocated and refreshed Barnes & Noble store that has a full-service restaurant and bar.

The store will include 40 room configurations such as living rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms and will include a Minnesota-themed area featuring materials and architecture to evoke a luxurious lake house.

With the addition of Design Within Reach, the Galleria will further strengthen its position as a destination for furniture shopping in the region. It already has Restoration Hardware, Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn, Gabberts and Arhaus.

Construction of the store, which will have its own exterior entrance, will begin this summer. It is going into the former Barnes & Noble space.

It is slated to open in the late fall, around the same time that the Galleria's 20,000-square-foot expansion is also expected to be completed. The expansion will have eight to 10 new stores that span fashion and home goods. It also will include a new restaurant and Starbucks.

"We will be announcing them one at a time very shortly, starting in a week or two from now," said Jen Smith, the leasing director for the Galleria.
