Meet the new bosses
Since the start of the 2015 season, 11 general managers have been hired around the majors, an unusually large number; only one had previous GM experience. A look at the newcomers:
Red SoxMike Hazen, 40Former minor league outfielder, he reports to new Red Sox President Dave Dombrowski.
IndiansMike Chernoff, 35Assistant GM moved up when his mentor, Chris Antonetti, became president of baseball ops.
TigersAl Avila, 57A longtime scout for Dombrowski, who while he was running Detroit moved Avila into the front office.
AngelsBilly Eppler, 40Yankees GM Brian Cashman gave him credit for helping build the 2009 champs as an assistant GM.
AthleticsDavid Forst, 40A Harvard grad who trained for a dozen years under Billy Beane, who remains his boss.
MarinersJerry Dipoto, 48Former big-league pitcher was fired as Angels GM after power struggle with manager Mike Scioscia.
Blue JaysRoss Atkins, 42Minor league pitcher who was brought over from Cleveland by longtime Indians exec Mark Shapiro.
