Preview: Minnesota dropped a 2-1 match last week and is trying to get its record even. Former FC Edmonton fixture Lance Laing returns to take on his former team. He came off the bench for Minnesota (0-1) last week.
United FC at a glance: Beyond a stellar Christian Ramirez goal, not much went right at Carolina last week. Coach Carl Craig said a lack of execution held the club back in the season opener — something he is focused on remedying. "The plan is very much the opportunity to play football and to show what you've got within the structure," Craig said in a team release. "But without the structure it's just 11 guys running around, so the guys need to follow the game plan and adhere to what we've put in place and embellish when they can and when they're able."
FC Edmonton at a glance: FC Edmonton (0-0-1) earned a scoreless draw the hard way last weekend against Rayo OKC. Captain Albert Watson was sent off in the 30th minute, forcing the Eddies to hold Rayo off for 60 minutes a man short. Defender Pape Diakite helped pick up the slack and made the North American Soccer League Team of the Week. Minnesota fans will remember goalkeeper Matt VanOekel, a Loon from 2008-14. He tallied four saves last weekend and also made the team of the week.
