Wine: Juan Gil's "Shania" boxed wine

April 25, 2015 at 7:00PM

When is a $24 wine an amazing bargain? When it comes in a 3-liter box, making the price $6 a bottle. The Juan Gil's "Shania" line might come in cardboard, but both the Monastrell and the White overdeliver in a major way. The monastrell (mourvedre) is meaty and firm but has gobs of palate-friendly blueberry flavors and surprising length; try it with burgers, pizza, grilled meat and veggies. The white is sumptuous but focused, and downright delicious; it would pair nicely with most any seafood or salad (or seafood salad) and would cozy right up to soft cheeses.

Available at Harbor Wine & Spirits, Cork & Barrel, Liquor Boy, Northgate, Top Ten Woodbury, On the Rocks and others.
