Plenty of room at this inn

Even classic TV series take time to hit their stride, and that was certainly true of "Newhart," which starred the inimitable Bob Newhart as a New York City author who becomes a Vermont innkeeper. The 1980s sitcom achieved a new level of zaniness in Season 2 with the addition of Twin Cities native Julia Duffy as the perky, pouty socialite Stephanie, who laughably signs on as the maid after a memorable cameo in Season 1. Add the debut of Peter Scolari as Stephanie's goofy suitor and more frequent visits by the fraternal trio of Larry, Darryl and Darryl (William Sanderson, Tony Papenfuss and John Voldstad), and "Newhart" was on its way to TV history.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
