LEXINGTON, Tenn. — Police say a semitrailer hit a cow, skidded across the median and crashed into another truck and an SUV on a rural West Tennessee highway, killing four people.

Highway patrol spokeswoman Dalya Qualls says the driver of the semi was heading eastbound on Interstate 40 Tuesday night. The truck hit the cow and slid into the westbound lanes.

A police report says the driver and passenger in the semi that struck the cow were killed.

Two people in the 2006 Chevy Trailblazer also died and a third person was injured. The driver of the second tractor-trailer was not injured.

The highway patrol says the crash was 2 miles east of Wildersville, about 100 miles east-northeast of Memphis.
