RALEIGH, N.C. — A North Carolina judge has issued a temporary order blocking the takeover of Charlotte's airport by a regional authority.
Judge Robert Sumner's order Thursday came hours after the state Senate gave final approval to legislation transferring control of Charlotte Douglas International Airport to an 11-member board selected by officials from the city, Mecklenburg County, and five surrounding counties.
With state Senate approval Thursday, North Carolina legislators followed through on their decision to strip Charlotte of the airport that it has run for more than 70 years and turn control of the country's sixth -busiest airline hub over to the regional body.
Charlotte officials had signaled they were ready to go to court to stop the takeover of one of the city's largest assets.
