Long distance out for CenturyLink customers in SD; damaged fiber-optic cable line to blame

July 15, 2013 at 5:38PM

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — CenturyLink customers in South Dakota have been without long-distance service because of damage to a fiber-optic cable line.

The Argus Leader reports (http://argusne.ws/15g2hIu) that long-distance service has been disrupted since Saturday morning because of flooding that damaged the line in Rice County in south-central Minnesota.

Company spokeswoman Carrie Amann says she doesn't know how many customers are affected, but that they are only in South Dakota. The company is not sure when the service will be restored.

Customers can still make local calls.
