ALBERT LEA, Minn. — An Albert Lea man whose hand was blown off last year in an explosion in his underground bunker has been charged with unlawful felony possession of an explosive device.
An Albert Lea Tribune report (http://bit.ly/12ZVCG3 ) says 48-year-old Ronald Irvin Rofshus was making an explosive at his home in October when the blast occurred. He lost part of his left arm and suffered chemical and heat burns.
He appeared in court Thursday with defense attorney Peggy Rockow. She entered a provisional not-guilty plea and requested 30 days to decide whether to challenge any of the evidence against him.
The criminal complaint quotes Rofshus as saying he was mixing explosives to make targets that would explode when fired upon. Freeborn County prosecutors say Rofshus doesn't appear to be a threat to society.
