NEW YORK — CBS Sports analyst and golf swing coach Peter Kostis says he is recovering from colon cancer.

Kostis has missed the last few golf tournaments to get treatment. He says he was going to keep it private until hearing former baseball player John Kruk talk about his testicular cancer Sunday during a Red Sox-Yankees telecast.

He says in a statement released by CBS that he wanted to go public to help spread awareness of colon cancer.

He says it was detected early during a regular physical and colonoscopy. Kostis says he going through preventive chemotherapy and the prognosis for a full recovery is excellent.

Kostis says he hopes to be back to CBS golf telecasts as quickly as he can.
