School briefs: Lakeville job fair planned for high school students

The Business Education Committee of the Lakeville Chamber of Commerce will hold a job fair aimed at high school students from 3-6 p.m. May 22 at Lakeville South High School.

High school students will run the fair, which is open to all high school students in the Lakeville area.

The Lakeville School District is seeking nominations for its Friends of Education Awards, which honor outstanding individual contributions to the Lakeville schools in four categories.

Members of the community may nominate people they feel are deserving of these awards, which will be presented at the 2013 Staff Recognition Reception on May 22.

Nomination forms are available in any school's office and at www.isd194.k12.mn.us. Entries must be returned by May 13 to Linda Swanson at the Lakeville School District Office, 8670 210th St. W., Lakeville.

Six volunteers were selected to receive the 2013 John Coskran Volunteer Award in the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District.

A public reception to honor the nominees will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 2, at the Campus Cup cafe in the upper level of the Senior Campus at Diamondhead Education Center, 200 W. Burnsville Parkway.

A short program will take place at 6 p.m., and the six recipients will receive their awards at 6:30 p.m., at the start of the school board meeting.

Three south metro schools and one district were recognized for their green initiatives last week by the U.S. Department of Education.

The department announced the second annual Green Ribbon Schools honoring 64 schools and 14 districts nationwide, and all the Minnesota winners were in the south metro.

Jeffers Pond Elementary School in Prior Lake, Heritage E-STEM Middle School in West St. Paul and the School of Environmental Studies in Apple Valley received the awards, along with the Prior Lake-Savage School District.
