Brooklyn Park is sharing its fire chief with East Coast residents, as Ken Prillaman assists at the Albany, N.Y.-based State Emergency Operations Center after Hurricane Sandy.
This is the fifth deployment of Minnesotans through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact, sort of a national mutual aid agreement. Ten left Friday morning, bringing to 28 the number of Minnesotans who have served since the storm bore down on the East Coast last month. They're helping coordinate recovery efforts there.
North metro volunteers include Anoka County's Lance Ross, an emergency management specialist, and Terry Stoltzman, its emergency management director. They'll return Friday.
Julie Anderson, spokeswoman for Homeland Security and Emergency Management of Minnesota, noted the timing of the current group's absence:
"This final group is going over Thanksgiving. It's very generous to be away from your family over Thanksgiving to assist in this recovery."
