A major remodeling project underway at the Woodbury Kohl's will give the store a new look.

The $1.4 million in improvements include relocating the customer service and gift registry to the front of the store at 7100 Valley Creek Plaza.

Along with LED track lighting throughout the store, the project includes installing new checkout stations, updated restrooms, and fitting rooms with lounges in the Misses and Juniors departments. It also includes new displays to highlight merchandise trends, and redesigning the Home, Juniors, Children's and Jewelry departments, said Kevin Miller, Kohl's district manager.

The remodeling should be complete in early October. It comes as Kohl's gives facelifts to about 50 stores nationwide this year to give customers a "fresh, exciting shopping experience," Miller said.

Kohl's Woodbury store opened in 1994 and was last updated in 2004.

The 5,000-square-foot store at Hudson Road and Woodbury Drive is just a short distance from the city's first Mattress Firm, which opened in April at 9220 Hudson Road.

"We choose store locations very carefully, taking into consideration the traffic, convenience and visibility," said company spokesman Jeff Dorman. "This location fit with our criteria."

Mattress Firm sells mattresses by Sealy, Stearns & Foster, Tempur-Pedic, Simmons, Serta and other manufacturers, along with pillows, bed frames and other accessories.

The city's planning commission recently gave Tom Griffith Sod approval to go ahead with building a 5,375-square-foot building at its headquarters at 3022 Hadley Av. N. That also is the home of Stout Construction, Inc.

According to a city newsletter, the building will include a loading area, shop and offices, along with paved parking and a privacy fence to surround the property. It also will feature enhanced landscaping that will incorporate mature oak trees on the site. Existing garages will be torn down.
