Cameo Critic: Evan Shapiro

January 5, 2008 at 2:10AM

Evan Shapiro, general manager of Independent Film Channel, talks about his favorite book of the moment, "The Yiddish Policemen's Union" by Michael Chabon.

"It's about the world as if Israel did not exist and Jews moved off the coast of Alaska. It's brilliant. I learned more Yiddish from reading that book than 40 years of conversations with my family. It's a great noir thriller told through a political, popular Jewish prism."
