The five newest members of the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame were announced Monday afternoon in a teleconference. An enshrinement date this fall in Chicago for the Class of 2011 will be set next week.
The five:
* Chris Chelios. He holds the all-time record for NHL games by a defenseman, 1,651 over 26 seasons. He was picked in the second round of the 1981 NHL draft by Montreal and played seven seasons for the Canadiens, nine for Chicago and Detroit and one for Atlanta. He was on three Stanley Cup champions and played on U.S. team in four Winter Olympics (1984, 1998, 2002 and 2006). He also was on Wisconsin's NCAA championship team in 1983. He is a Chicago native.
* Gary Suter. He had 203 goals and 844 points during his 17-year NHL career which began after Calgary drafted him in the ninth round of the 1984 NHL entry draft. He played for the Flames, the Chicago Blackhawks and the San Jose Sharks. He ranks fourth in NHL career points by an American defenseman. Suter, a Madison, Wis., native, played college hockey at Wisconsin from 1983-85.
* Keith Tkachuk. He is one of only four American-born NHL players with 500 or more career goals. Winnipeg drafted him 19th overall in the 1990 draft. The forward is a native of Melrose, Mass., and had 538 goals and 1,065 points in 1,201 games. He also was a four-time Olympian (1992, 1998, 2002, 2006). He played college hockey for one season (1990-91) at Boston University.
* Ed Snider. He brought an NHL expansion team to Philadelphia in 1967 and remains the Flyers owner.
* Mike (Doc) Emrick. In 39 years as a hockey broadcaster, he has called 13 Stanley Cup finals. He has been the voice of the New Jersey Devils since 1993.
