Sugar hounds never need a reason to drop in on a bakery. Penny pinchers, on the other hand, can count on the Franklin Street Bakery for their requisite lure-you-in-the-door deals. At the bakery's Edina outlet (3904 Sunnyside Rd., Edina, 952-929-2253, www.franklinstreetbakery.com), $2 buys a cup of warm chocolate chip cookies every weekday from 3 to 5 p.m., a sort-of after-school happy hour. And between 5 and 6 p.m., the price on a daily assortment of baked-that-day goodies gets cut in half. Over at the Minneapolis store (1020 E. Franklin Av., Mpls., 612-879-5730), customers can enjoy a free cup of coffee every Monday morning when they purchase a breakfast item, and Thursday is the day when select loaves of bread are just 99 cents.
