Another guide to feather identification

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Web site

The Feather Atlas is a Web site offering help identifying bird feathers. This is similar to the book recently reviewed here, except that fewer species are presented in greater detail. You can find photographs of the flight (wing and tail) feathers of almost 200 of species of North American birds. The site is maintained by the Forensics Laboratory of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. As helpful as I thought the book could be, this site is several times better. The address is http://www.lab.fws.gov/featheratlas/browse.php. It's a great place to browse on a winter day.
