January 3, 2011 at 9:04PM

The Catholic Spirit, the official newspaper of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, is celebrating its 100th anniversary this week. And to mark the historic occasion, it's inviting Catholics from parishes around the archdiocese to help celebrate the centennial.

Cardinal John Foley, the former head of communications for the Vatican, will be the keynote speaker at the event set for Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at the Nicollet Island Pavilion in Minneapolis.

The first issues of the Catholic Bulletin -- predecessor to The Catholic Spirit -- rolled off the presses on Jan. 7, 1911, according to The Catholic Spirit's Website.

Tickets for the event are $40 per person (early bird $33). To RSVP, go online at http://tcs100.eventbrite.com or call Mary Gibbs at 651-251-7709.
