DID YOU KNOW: South Dakotans Served Pheasant Sandwiches to Soldiers during World War II?

Believe it or not, pheasants played a role in feeding America's soldiers during World War II.

More than half a million soldiers ate pheasant sandwiches in South Dakota during World War II

On a recent visit to Aberdeen, South Dakota, I had the good fortune of hearing a presentation by a trio of American Red Cross volunteers recounting the history of Aberdeen's World War II Pheasant Canteen.

Turns out more than half a million service men and women dined on pheasant sandwiches as they traveled through Aberdeen via railways during the war. The ladies from the American Red Cross Brown County Chapter were kind enough to share some photos and their delicious pheasant sandwich recipe, so I'm sharing it with all of you.
