Minnesota's first "test tube" twins - a pair of healthy boys - were born in April 1986 to an Eagan couple who tried for six years to have a child.
"They're adorable. They're out of this world," said the mother, Catherine Borden, 34, as her husband, Garry, 37, beamed. "It makes you appreciate everything when you wait so long."
Michael and Alexander Borden were the fourth and fifth conceived-in-the-lab babies for the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. At that time, the state's other in vitro fertilization program, at the University of Minnesota Hospital, had had three pregnancies, but no births.
