Igor Will Take Path of Least Resistance

September 13, 2010 at 7:25PM

Powerful Hurricane Igor will eventually turn northwestward then northwardbetween two high pressure systems this weekend as it finds the path of leastresistance. This path could take Igor dangerously close to the islands of Bermuda thisweekend, but it appears that the greatest threat to the U.S. East coast willjust be large surf and strong rip currents this weekend and early next week.

Once Igor passes north of 35 degrees latitude, it should get caught up in thestronger westerlies, which should accelerate the hurricane northeastward andsafely away from the United States and Canadian Maritimes next week.
