The owners of First Avenue are opening another bar and restaurant — this time in downtown St. Paul next to the Palace Theatre, which they co-manage. The Minneapolis-based club is taking over the lease of Wild Tymes on Nov. 29, then remodeling and rebranding the space, with an opening likely by next spring. "An adjoining bar and restaurant was always part of the plan with the Palace," said First Ave general manager Nate Kranz. "We have a lot of ideas about how we can use that space as a really complementary room." Right now, there's no name, and Kranz said the concept is still being "fleshed out." They want to move the bar and "open up the space a little bit" while leaving the kitchen and restrooms mostly intact, he said. Kranz expects the vibe to be similar in some ways to the Depot Tavern, the casual pub next to First Avenue that debuted in 2010, but he stopped short of confirming that the menu would be mostly pub-focused. The Palace, first unveiled in 1916, reopened in March after sitting mostly dormant for four decades. "I see that area as the connector between Lowertown and West 7th," Kranz said. "It's got a lot of charm. We think it's really up and coming, and the Palace is a big part of that."

Bill plays ball

Folks in the Twin Cities may be used to seeing Bill Murray in his capacity as co-owner of the St. Paul Saints. Just three years ago, he even surprised local fans by taking tickets at the main gate. But the new web comedy "Bill Murray & Brian Doyle-Murray's Extra Innings" may be a revelation to those who know the actor mostly as a Ghostbuster. The 10-part series, which debuted Monday on Facebook, features the brothers as they travel to minor-league ballparks across the country, starting at the home of the Martha's Vineyard Sharks. It's fun watching Murray interact with fans and offer advice in the batting box, while the theme song — co-written by the Murrays and Paul Shaffer — serves as a nice tribute to Randy Newman. The itinerary doesn't appear to include a stop in St. Paul.

Eaux no, not again

Justin Vernon has always prided himself on being an experimentalist, and his Wisconsin music fest seems to have the same attitude about scheduling. The Bon Iver guru and his team have moved their Eaux Claires Music & Art Festival to yet another new weekend for its fourth year — July 6-7, 2018, pitting it against Minneapolis' biggest annual music fest, the Basilica Block Party. EC was staged in mid-June this year on a weekend traditionally staked out by Rock the Garden (which moved to five weeks later). Advance tickets are now on sale — but you'll have to wait to see the lineup. "We're excited about the names. But we're gonna drib and drab it out, let it flow like smoke, because we want this festival to fly or fall on feel," said the announcement. While Eaux Claires and the Basilica party are very different aesthetically, they do book some similar acts. Both had Wilco in recent summers, and recent BBP acts such as the Shins and Death Cab for Cutie could have fit into EC.

Wilco signs off

One of the more humorous but telling moments in last week's three-night stand by Wilco at the Palace Theatre came midway through the final set when frontman Jeff Tweedy addressed fans who had carried a sign to every show requesting the song "Bull Black Nova." "You guys have gotten that song three nights in a row, so you're gonna have to wait another year to hear it," Tweedy told them (Wilco will be on hiatus for most of 2018). "Go find another band to follow around. The National are touring."C.R.

The other big contest Feb. 4

One of the hottest tickets on Super Bowl weekend is free — but competition will be fierce to see the postgame edition of "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," airing live from the Orpheum on Feb. 4. You'll have to wait until 10:30 a.m. Dec. 22 to toss your name in the hat, via NBC.com/the-tonight-show/tickets/main. And you must be at least 16 years old by Super Bowl Sunday.N.J.
