'Guillermo Kuitca: Everything'

Never content to color inside the lines, Argentine artist Kuitca painted on mattresses -- 20 of them -- and turned them into a massive 1992 sculpture. That idiosyncratic installation will be the centerpiece of a Kuitca retrospective featuring 75 paintings and works on paper. Considered one of the most important artists in Latin America today, Kuitca produces elusive abstractions suggestive of maps, architectural drawings, city plans, aerial vistas, interior landscapes and psychological alienation. His moody abstractions lack "a utopian projection of the future -- either the future of art or the future of the world," writes Columbia University Prof. Andreas Huyssen in the exhibition catalog. Organized in part by Walker director Olga Viso, the show is first in a series of painting exhibits leading to a Walker-curated survey of contemporary abstract painting in 2012. More event details.

'Wings & Teeth: The Art of Doomtree' at CO Exhibitions

From their live shows to their fliers, from their album packaging to their music videos, the self-made visuals of hip-hop collective Doomtree have always been integral to the group. This visual retrospective will include projections of their music videos, a pop-up shop with limited-edition Doomtree products, and the debut of an exclusive run of CDs and art prints created with screenprinters Burlesque of North America. The exhibit also serves as a fittingly bombastic introduction to the new CO Exhibitions gallery, which replaces Burlesque's First Amendment gallery downstairs. Expect a similar flavor in the new space, with live DJs and bands rocking the decks during opening receptions. This grand opening party will include live performances throughout the night by each of Doomtree's members. More event details.

FILE -- A rent deposit slot at an apartment complex in Tucker, Ga., on July 21, 2020. As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
