'The Cosmic Collection'

Small, square, flat -- a ceramic tile doesn't appear to be a promising canvas for creativity. Even so, clever artists have made much of them, especially the Twin Cities' own Josh Blanc, whose current show is inspired by everything from astronomy, weather and satellite images of Earth to factory smoke, botanical forms and wallpaper patterns. His new show spotlights his "Cosmic Collection," which includes bas relief images, swirling clouds, glowing spots, tile murals and cosmic "trees" in various sizes and color combos. Hand-rolled and glazed, his unique tiles offer jazzy interior options for decorators, do-it-yourselfers and collectors.
