Art spotlight: Pop Art prints at Highpoint

Opening Friday: Now a half-century old, the Pop Art movement still sizzles. With its colorful embrace of the detritus of daily life — advertisements, food and drink, celebrities, road signs, people next door, swimming pools, cars, the open road — it celebrated and sometimes cast an ironic gaze on life-as-we-know-it. During the 1960s art took to the streets with comparatively inexpensive prints — lithographs, silkscreens, etchings — that appealed to the rambunctious sensibilities of the era. All that is reflected in "Pop Art and Beyond," a sample of the 8,000-piece collection of Jordan Schnitzer of Portland, Ore. Assembled over the past 40 years, the show includes a full range of Pop Art stars, including Claes Oldenburg, James Rosenquist, Andy Warhol, Tom Wesselman, Jim Dine, David Hockney, Robert Indiana, Alex Katz, Ed Ruscha, Wayne Thiebaud and Roy Lichtenstein, whose "Before the Mirror," a 1975 lithograph, is shown here.
