MARCY ARTS GALA

Saturday night: Marcy Open School in southeast Minneapolis has forged a special relationship with Twin Cities artists who work with the school's K-eighth graders on folk music, spoken-word performances, dance, video, photography and other art projects. Support for the Marcy Arts Partnership comes largely from the annual auction and gala to which top artists donate paintings, photos, furniture, jewelry, pottery and other artful items. The elegant candelabra shown here was forged by Twin Cities artist Lisa Elias; it's typical of the classy objects that attract savvy art buyers to the event. Last year's gala raised nearly $30,000 in vital support for the program. Besides bidding in live and silent auctions, partygoers can munch appetizers and desserts from local emporiums and enjoy performances by the Marcy Rock Band and African dances by the Tiyumba dance troupe. All that while doing good for the kids. Such a deal. (6-11 p.m. Sat., $40. The Soap Factory, 518 SE. 2nd St., Mpls. 612-692-0719 or marcy.mpls.k12.mn.us.)
