'Scene From Above'

A new member of the Rosalux collective, self-described "kinetic sculpture artist" Asia Ward gets ample introduction with the first solo show in Rosalux's new Northeast location. The artist is best known for her sculptural, moving plush creatures cobbled together from old children's toys. Though she will have one moving animal in the window, triggered every five minutes by a clock, this show is expected to be a departure from her previous work. Ward's latest collection consists largely of ultra-modern metal sculpture work. But by incorporating subtle movement and light effects into the pieces, it seems that Ward is staying true to the kinetic nature of her work. More event details.

    American Pottery Festival

Launching its 20th-anniversary season, the Northern Clay Center has invited 85 top ceramicists who have previously shown there to join 55 gallery artists for a weekend of parties, pottery sales, demonstrations, discussions and ceramic high jinks. Festivities start with a benefit celebration Friday and continue with talks and demos. Artists will show slides of their creations in a PechaKucha, a phrase that mimics the sound of "chit-chat" in Japanese. In APF terms it means each artist will show 20 slides for 20 seconds each, or a total of "exactly 6 minutes and 40 seconds of fame and glory." Collectors' alert: Pottery by Warren MacKenzie will be sold via drawings-for-places-in-line and by silent auction. More event details.

FILE -- A rent deposit slot at an apartment complex in Tucker, Ga., on July 21, 2020. As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
