Poster Offensive 5

Five years after its inception, this massive group show featuring politically inclined designs is bigger than ever. It comes at a time that's ripe with political inspiration -- after all, it's been the year of Christine O'Donnell, Tom Emmer, the Target boycott and (of course) Obama and Palin. This year's contributors include a laundry list of local screenprinters and designers: Aesthetic Apparatus, Briana Auel, LovelyMpls, Landland, Jamey Erickson and Adam Turman, plus Mikey Burton and Cranky Pressman of Ohio and many more. The opening reception at Galley, the space formerly occupied by Frank Stone Gallery, will include food from Chowgirls Catering, coffee and chocolates from Equal Exchange and tunes from Anthem Heart DJs. Elliott Erwitt

For more than 60 years, Paris-born photographer Erwitt has been at the top of his game, photographing the famous (Marilyn Monroe) and the unknown (Arkansas debutantes) in cities and towns worldwide. A longtime affiliate of the Magnum photo agency, he has been celebrated in solo shows at the Museum of Modern Art, the Smithsonian, the Art Institute of Chicago and in more than 20 books. Still a dynamo at 82, he flew to Minneapolis last year to photograph playwright Tony Kushner at work at the Guthrie Theater. While in town he dropped by Weinstein Gallery, struck up a friendship with gallery owner Martin Weinstein, and the two hatched this new show. Erwitt will be there along with every photographer in the Twin Cities. More event details.
