Besides producing prints for visiting artists from New York and elsewhere, Highpoint Center for Printmaking offers its professional facilities to a cooperative of Twin Cities artists who produce original screenprints, etchings, woodcuts, monoprints and other forms.
Their styles range from abstract to hyper-realist and their subject matter from landscapes to the pensive social satire shown here. Called "Inheriting the Earth," this clever and mournful lithograph by Emmy Lingscheit (left) recalls the devastating floods that have taken a toll on the cities and countryside in recent years. 'The Artwork of Sonya Berlovitz'
A veteran costume designer with a background in painting, sculpture, and textile design, Sonya Berlovitz knows something about the fusion of fashion, theater and art. Berlovitz studied haute couture in Paris, worked as a textile designer for Japanese fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto and has been resident costume designer for Theatre de la Jeune Lune for 28 years.
In this exhibition, Berlovitz will show costume work as well as watercolor fashion illustrations of her designs at Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union -- an unusual location for an art reception. Berlovitz explains, "I've belonged to Affinity Plus for 29 years, and this is something they will do for their members who are artists." (Free opening reception 6 to 8 p.m. Fri.
