Armed man barricaded inside south Minneapolis home apprehended

Police had area closed off.

UPDATE: A little after 9 p.m. police Tweeted that the standoff ended peacefully with the man being taken into custody.

An armed man has barricaded himself in a south Minneapolis apartment on Monday.

Around 12:30 p.m., police were contacted by a concerned family member about a man believed to be armed with a gun who had barricaded himself in a unit on the first floor of a building in the 2200 block of 5th Avenue S.

Police currently have several blocks roped off from Franklin to 24th and 5th to Portland Avenue.

Police spokesmen say they believe the man is alone, but were unable to answer if the man lived there or if he has had earlier contact with police.
